Attachment theory is focused on the relationships and bonds between people, including those between a parent and child, and between our friends and partners. Therapists help clients understand how their earliest experiences and bonds have a profound impact that persists throughout life. This understanding is considered “normal” because it helped them survive in their youth. Still, there may be a need for changes in behavior as it relates to relationships today.
